Jacoba Bouwman, 96 of Rock Rapids,died Thursday, Jan 14, 1993 at the Rock Rapids Health Center.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 18 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. The Rev. William DeYoung officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lester, under the direction of the Rosse Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Mrs. Bouwman was born Aug. 27, 1896 in the Netherlands, daughter of Thomas and Marie (Stander) Smit. She grew up and attended school there. She moved with her family to the United States on March 18, 1911, and settled near Orange City. She married John Bouwman Dec. 22, 1915 at her parents home near Orange City. They farmed near Larchwood, Alvord, and Lester until retiring to Rock Rapids in 1955. Mr. Bouwman died April 10. 1961. She moved to Rock Rapids Health Center on Sept. 4, 1987.

Survivors include five sons, Thomas of Rock Rapids, Walter of Luverne, Minn., Gradus of Hills, Minn., Henry of Lester, and John of Akron; four daughters, Mrs. Louis (Anna) Boom and Mrs. Hynie (Greta)Hommes, both of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Howard (Marie) Heyman of Alton, and Mrs. Ray (Adrianna) Snyders of Spencer, S.D.; a sister, Cornelia Dykhuizen of De Motte, Ind.: a sister-in-law, Maggie Smit of Hull; 38 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 79 great-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren; One great- great grandchild and three step great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Edward, killed in World War II; Dick and Marion; two infant daughters, MaryJane and Jeanette, and three grandsons.
