Died: 3-7-2007

Tena Leusink, 85, of Sioux Center formerly of Hull, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10 at First Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Mark Verbruggen officiating. Interment followed the funeral service in Hope cemetery of Hull.

Tena Leusink was born on July 18, 1921 to Albert and Sadie (Hoekstra) Vogel in Bigelow, Minn. She was raised in the Sheldon area where she received education through the eighth grade.

On Aug. 12, 1943, she married William (Bill) Leusink at the Leusink home by Middleburg. They made their first home near Orange City. In 1946 they moved to Holland, Minn. until 1959 when they moved to the Jasper, Minn. area. Due to health reasons the family moved to Hull in 1972. Bill passed away on Oct. 22, 1975. Tena then worked for Mid-Sioux Opportunities and the Green Thumb program. In 2001, she moved to Crown Pointe Independent Residence in Sioux Center.

Tena was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. During her lifetime, she attended Bereans Society, Ladies Aid and Coffee Break Fellowship. She loved to stay involved with the church.

Tena did a lot of sewing in her day, along with quilting, crocheting and caring for her numerous plants. You could count on Tena to always have a kind word to say and have a smile on her face. Even in the tough times in life, she would always have a sense of humor. According to the family, she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies. No one could make cookies like her. Most of all was her love for her family. She showed love to every single person in the family, and you knew it. She also enjoyed all the activities with her Crown Pointe family.

Left to cherish her memories include her 14 children: Henry and Margie Leusink of Hull; Alvina and Bob Smith of Sioux Falls; Kenneth and Mary Leusink of Hull; Val Leusink of Hull; Marlene and Alvis Van Beek of Ireton; Phyllis and Mike Otten of Tea, S.D.; Janet and Bob Kallemeyn of Lake Benton, Minn.; John and Ronda Leusink of Orange City; Hedy and Douglas Van Bruggen of Sioux Center; Thelma and Doug Brown of Aberdeen, S.D.; William (Bill) and Elaine Leusink of Maurice; Bernice and Gerben Doornink of Sioux Center; David and Carolyn Leusink of Charlevoix, Mich.; and Denise and Mike Vander Broek of Sioux Center; 44 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was also survived by three sisters: Grace Buren of Sheldon; Tillie Brummel of Edgerton, Minn.; and Martha and Tom De Jong of Hull; a sister-in-law, Margaret Vogel of Hull.

She was welcomed to heaven by her husband; her son Stanley
Leusink; granddaughter Tonya Leusink; two grandsons Michael Kallemeyn and William Jay (B Jay) Leusink; a brother Frank Vogel; two brothers-in-law Joe Brummel and Adrian Buren.
