Sioux Center News December 7, 1950

Gerrit Vander Berg, 76 year old Orange City resident was found dead at his home on Tuesday forenoon. It is thought that he passed away on Saturday, a trucker bringing fuel oil to the house, noticed several bottles of frozen milk on the back porch, and also that mail had not been taken in, so notified the neighbors, who went to investigate and found him lying on the floor.

Mr. Vander Berg is survived by four children, John G. of Sioux Center; Allie (Mrs. Raymond Lubbers) of Gibbsville, Wis., Bert of Dubuque and Gerrit J. Vander Berg of Boyden. There are also 19 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters surviving; Ralph Vander Berg of Sioux Center, John Vander Berg of Hull, Hattie (Mrs. Geurt Van Roekel) of sioux Center, Lizzie (Mrs. Jake Gorzeman) of Hull, Gertie (Mrs. John De Roos) of Rock Rapids, and Minnie (Mrs. Andrew De Roos) of California.

He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away a few years ago and two grandchildren, Freddie Lubbers and Vonnie Vander Berg. Also by a brother, Ben Vander Berg and a sister Mrs. Hannes Rozeboom.

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon, December 3 at 1:00 o'clock at the Van Etten funeral home at Orange City and at 1:30 o'clock at the First Reformed Church of Orange City. Rev H. Colenbrander will officiate. Burial will take place in the family plot in the Sioux Center Cemetery.
