Bernard J. Bomgaars, 69, of Orange City died Wednesday, August 28, 1991, at a hospital in Orange City.

A prayer service will be at 1:15 P.M. Friday at Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City. Graveside services will be at 1:45 P.M. Friday at Capel Township Cemetery in Middleburg. A memorial service will be at 2:30 P.M. Friday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Donald De Glopper and the Rev. Garret Docter will officiate. Visitation will be after 2 P.M. today, with the family present from 7-8:30 P.M., at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Bomgaars was born August 10, 1922, in Middleburg, the son of Arie J. and Jennie (Vander Wilt) Bomgaars. He was raised in Middleburg. On February 28, 1941, he married Geneva D. Den Herderin Sioux Center. The couple farmed in the Middleburg and Rock Rapids areas until 1971 when they moved to Orange City. Mrs. Bomgaars died August 15, 1990, in Orange City. While living in Orange City he was employed as a welder at Tolman Fabricating and later as custodian at Floyd Valley School in Alton. He also worked at Foreman’s Tire Service, Kerr McGee Service and the Senior Citizen’s building. Mr. Bomgaars was a member of Trinity Reformed Church.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Vernon Noteboom and Glenda and Courtney Schiebout, all of Orange City and Lois and Ken Kuehl of Rock Rapids; seven sons, Arnold and his wife, Becky of Rochester, Minnesota, Vernon and his wife, Mary Lou of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Earl and his wife, Donna and Gerald and his wife, Kerri, all of Orange City, Norman and his wife, Mary of Sioux Center, Wayne of Orange City and Lowell of Kearney, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Severt (Margene) Van Berkel of Sioux Center and Mrs. Clifford (Arlys) Oolman of Orange City and a special friend Millie Harms of Alton.
