Edward John Lubbers, 95, of Orange City died Thursday, June 23, at Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility.

Memorial services were at 11 A.M. Monday at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Jonathan Opgenorth and the Rev. Randal Lubbers officiating. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Lubbers was born on January 5, 1910, in rural Orange City, the son of John and Allie (Te Paske) Lubbers. He was raised on a farm just south of Orange City. On June 16, 1933, he married Sylvia “Todd” Vos in rural Doon. They farmed near Orange City, mostly on the same farm where he was born and raised. About 1968, they moved into Orange City. In 1999, they became one of the original residents of the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. On May 24 of this year, he transferred to the Long Term Care Facility.

He was a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as both an elder and a deacon. He also served on the boards of directors of the Orange City Public Memorial Home in Orange City for 15 years and the Sioux County Youth Fair as a charter director.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years and one week; a son and his wife, J. Charles “Chuck” and Arlene Lubbers of Orange City; two daughters, Phyllis Nelms of Hawthorne, California, and Laura and her husband Rod Mulder of Estes Park, Colorado; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Raymond and Margaret Lubbers of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Elsie Landhuis, Jeanette Kleinwolterink, Matilda Schoep and June Beal; and infant brother.
