Gertrude Van Ommeren 89, of Orange City died Monday, June 7, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Burial was In West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City.

The former Gertrude Vermeer was born March 12, 1904, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Jacob W. and Cynthia (Te Slaa) Vermeer. She was raised at Hull. She married Joe C. Van Ommeren at Hull on January 27, 1926. The couple farmed at Hull until 1944, when they moved to Orange City. He died October 26. 1979, In Orange City.

She was a member of First Reformed Church of Orange City and a former member of the Orange City Municipal Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Vernon and Marie of Des Moines, Ivan and Dot of Cedar Falls and Roger and Charlene of Waco, Texas; a son-in-law, George Genant of Springfield. South Dakota; a brother, Gerrit Vermeer of Boyden; three sisters, Johanna Kooiker of Hull, Priscilla Van Ommeren of Maurice and Hattie Vink of Worthington; 14 grandchildren; and 18 greatgrandchildren.
