From the Thursday, November 16, 2000 Hawarden Independent:

Harold L. Moerman, Sr., 55, of rural Hawarden, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Funeral service was Saturday at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. David Tellinghuisen officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.

Harold L. Moerman was born Jan. 22, 1945 in Grand Rapids, Mich., to John and Shirley (De Vries) Moerman. He spent his childhood in the Sioux Center area.

He served in the U.S. Army being discharged in Oct. of 1968. He married Marilyn Madsen on July 13,1965 in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Lakewood, Calif., where he was in the trucking business.

He returned to Iowa in 1974 and married DeDe Campbell Sept. 30, 1980 at Sioux City. They lived in Union County, S.D. At the time of his death he was employed with J & M Trucking of Ireton.

Surviving relatives include his mother, Shirley Borges of Hawarden; wife, DeDe of rural Hawarden; two daughters, Deanna Burke of Sioux City, and Tammy Knibbe of Bettendorf; son, Harold Lee Moerman, Jr. of Hawarden; two stepsons, Troy Leekley and Mark Leekley both of Akron; sister, Shirley Ann Schelling of Hawarden; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
