DEATH CLAIMS ANDREW K. TOFT

PASSED AWAY IN SIOUX CITY TUESDAY MORNING

Was 69 Years of Age and Was Long a Prominent Eagle Township Farmer and Live Stock Feeder

Andrew K. Toft, a long time resident of this vicinity, passed away at 2:10 Tuesday morning at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, following an operation. Mr. Toft had been failing in health for the past four or five years and March 21st he was removed to the Lutheran hospital and on March 25th he submitted to an operation. He seemed to recover satisfactorily from the operation but complications due to other causes developed, causing his death.

Andrew K. Toft was born at Ossian, Iowa, Sept. 29, 1862, and passed away in Sioux City April 12, 1932, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 13 days. When but three weeks old he moved with his parents to Emmet county where he grew to young manhood. He was united in marriage with Ellen Mathre at Estherville, Iowa, Dec. 16, 1891, and eight children were born to this union. One son, Knute, died 17 years ago at the age of 22 years. In 1894 he moved to Sioux county with his family and located on the farm, seven miles northeast of Hawarden in Eagle township, which place has been his home continuously since that time. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and after moving to this community he united with the Rock River church in Eagle township of which he remained a faithful member until his death. Mr. Toft took an active part in the affairs of his community and for many years he served as director of the school board of Eagle township. He engaged in cattle raising on a large scale and for many years was one of the large cattle feeders of this vicinity. He is survived by his wife and seven children: Mrs. Belmore Benson of Jackson, Minn.; Mrs. Fred Yunker of Rock Valley; Miss Agnes, who teaches at Underwood, S. D.; Miss Nora of Flandreau, S. D., and Howard, Elmer and Milton at home. He also leaves five grandchildren; four brothers, 0. K. Toft of Hudson; Pete of Ludlow, S. D.; Martin of Humboldt, S. D.; Joe of Beach, N. D.; and two sisters, Mrs. C. J. Viland of Canton, and Mrs. J. C. Johnson of Kanawha, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at the Toft home at 1 o'clock this afternoon and at 2 o'clock at the Highland church; northeast of Hawarden, with Rey. G. 0. Gronseth in charge. Buria} will be wade in Grace Hill cemetery in Hawarden.
