Chatsworth, Iowa- Vincent M. Puhl, 87, of Chatsworth, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden, Iowa with Father Roger Linnan celebrating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Albert E. Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be from noon to 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary at the church. Vincent M. Puhl was born July 10, 1925 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Michael and Theresa (Westergard) Puhl. He was raised on the family farm near Akron. He attended Catholic School in Akron and moved with his parents to a farm east of Chatsworth, where he farmed with his parents. In June 1951, he was called to duty in the Korean Conflict for 2 years as a military police officer of the 720th Battalion. When returning home he farmed near Chatsworth and married Audry Schmitz at St. Joseph's Church in LeMars on September 11, 1954. They continued to farm near Chatsworth until moving into town in 1975. Vince then worked for L.G. Everist in Hawarden and for a local farmer, Jim Easton.

He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden where he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4132 and the St. Mary's Choir. Vince was a member of the American Legion in Akron and the VFW Club in Elk Point, South Dakota. He served on the Chatsworth City Council for many years.

He enjoyed the outdoors and visiting with family and friends. Vince especially loved his time with family including his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed his John Deere Tractors.

Vince is survived by 8 children, Jerome and Judy Puhl of Chatsworth, Joyce (Puhl) Toben of Akron, Clarence and Linda Puhl of Kingsley, Iowa, Kenneth and Sharon Puhl of Chatsworth, Cliff and Irene Puhl of Chatsworth, Mark and Kelly Puhl of LeMars, Mary Jean (Puhl) and Mark Weyen of Chatsworth, and Rita (Puhl) and Kurt Haage of Akron; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Norbert Schmitz of Currie, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Marie Schmitz of LeMars.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audry; sister, Cecelia and brother, William both in infancy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Jack Kramper and Beatrice and Leonard Feldhacker; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Roseen Puhl.
