Joseph A. Mohan, 92, of Hawarden, died Friday, July 27,2001 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Funeral Mass was Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph A. Mohan was born June 19, 1909 to Robert Joseph and Ella (Devlin) Mohan in Sioux City. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1929 and attended Western Union College in Le Mars. He married Elsie Zimmerman on Sept. 29,1931 in Kansas City, Mo.

He worked at Borden's and Robert's Dairies in Sioux City until 1940 at which time he received his officer's commission and commanded Civilian Conservation Corps Camps in Moville and Missouri Valley in Iowa and Council Grove in Kansas. After Pearl Harbor he was called to active duty and served in the United States Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen, Md., throughout World War II. In 1947 he went into partnership with Wayne Pierce in the Holly Dairy in Holly, Colo. In 1948 he went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Richard Zimmerman in the N.W. Iowa Seed Co. in Hawarden. He served as a civilian office manager of the Reserve Army Training Center in Sioux City and then with the Internal Revenue Service until his retirement in 1971.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Elsie; son J. Patrick of West Covina, Calif.; daughter, Joyce of Maurice; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nine step-grandchildren; 10 step-great¬grandchildren; and one step-great-greatgranddaughter.
