Phillip "Phil" A. Toft Sr. age 61, died Sunday, Oct. 7,2001 at his home in Hudson after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral service was Oct. 12, at the Hudson Lutheran Church in Hudson. Burial was at Eden Cemetery of Hudson with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Phillip A. Toft, Sr. was born on Sept. 19, 1940 in Sioux Falls, son of Howard and Lila (Trieber) Toft. He was baptized and confirmed at the Hudson Lutheran Church. He spent his childhood on the family farm near Hudson, attending country grade school and graduating from Hudson High School in 1959. On June 6,1959 he married Louella Rau at the Hudson Lutheran Church. The family moved to Aberdeen, S.D. where he worked as a service manager for Smith Truck Sales until March of 1978. They moved to Rapid City where he worked as service manager for Hershuds of Sturgis, then became service manager for Eddie's Truck Sales in Rapid City until June of 1999 when they moved back to Hudson. He was service manager at Sterling Trucks of Sioux City from August 1999 until his death.

Survivors include: his wife, Louella; two sons, Phil Jr. of Valley Springs, S.D. and Marc of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Paula Johnson of Fallbrook, Calif., and Lorna Sundet of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grand-daughter; relatives: Jerry Toft of Hawarden, Jim Toft of Canton, S.D., Mavis Fjellanger of Sioux Falls, Lonnie Toft of Summerville, S.C., Hilma Ryken of Canton and Lorraine Hermanson of Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
