From the Thursday, April 27, 1967 Hawarden Independent:

Funeral services for Elmer H. Atwood, 79, of Le Mars, former Ireton resident, were held at 2 p. m. Monday at the First Methodist church in Le Mars. He died Saturday morning at his home following a long illness.

Mr. Atwood was born April 21, 1888, in Ireton and lived there until 1930. He moved to Rock Rapids for 10 years and then returned to Ireton where he operated a hardware store.

On May 27, 1923, he married Clara M. McCrory at Ireton.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Robert of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Glenn of Akron, Ohio; a nephew, Earl Bogen of Le Mars, who was raised by the Atwoods; a sister, Mrs. Essie Smith of De Witt, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
