Vernon Morey Succumbs at the age of 61
Funeral services for Vernon E. Morey, 81, former Hawarden resident who died Sunday morning at his home at Craig, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Ireton, Dr. G. S. Bruland officiating Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery there under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.
A vocal duet, Lois Rose and Fern Eilts, sang two hymns, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Bartlett at the organ. Casket bearers were Eldon Kallsen, Lloyd Kallsen, Emil R. Schuette. Ralph Klemme, J. Lloyd Ewers and Dale Schuette.
Mr. Morey was born June 25, 1902, on a farm near Audubon, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Morey. There he spent his childhood and in 1911 to 1913 he lived with his family in Fresno, Calif., returning to Audubon.
On March 2, 1930 he married Lola Riter at Ireton, the first couple to be married in the Methodist church there. They resided in Hawarden until January 1, 1931. when they moved to Craig.
Survivors include the widow; a son, George, and two sisters, Mrs. Russell Shelley of Sherman Oaks. Calif., and Mrs. F. C. Bendixen of Le Mars. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
