MRS. DOWDEY DIES IN CALIFORNIA

Word has been received here of the death of a former Hawarden and Chatsworth resident, Mrs. Gerald Dowdey, 54, of San Jose, California.

She passed away in a Santa Clara, California, hospital on February 20 after a sudden illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25, at Oakhill Mortuary's Chapel of Roses at San Jose, with Rev. Clifford O. Larson officiating. Interment was in Oakhill Memorial park.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Doris McDonald of San Jose, Mrs. Lois Ruana of Mountain View, California, and Mrs. Gloria Randall of West Spring-field, Massachusetts; two sons, Gerald, Jr., of Santa Clara and Pfc. Patrick R. Dowdey of Fort Riley, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Cote and Mrs. Patrick Hanifan, both of Sioux City, and three grandchildren.

Poster's note: According to the California death index, Doris L. Dowdey was born on August 29, 1914 in Michigan. She married George Crow on September 20, 1941 at Dakota City Nebraska (August 4, 1948 Hawarden Independent); however, they divorced in 1948 (September 2, 1948 Hawarden Independent). She married Gerald Dowdey on July 18, 1949 (see Hawarden Independent of July 21, 1949 and South Dakota marriage index). Maiden name unknown.
