Mrs. Sinkey, 72, Dies at Ireton

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Sinkey (nee Wiersma), 72, who died Wednesday, December 23, were held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the Ireton Christian Reformed church, Rev. Alfred Hannink officiating. Mrs. Fred Ten Napel was the soloist with Leo Juffer at the organ. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Ireton.

Casket bearers included Sam Byker, John Vlotho, Herman Schiebout, G. T. Juffer, Gerrit De Haan and James Geels.

Mrs. Sinkey was born January 21, 1887, at Kollum, Friesland, in The Netherlands and came to America at the age of 16.

She married William Sinkey on January 19, 1909, at Orange City. The couple farmed in Sioux county until their retirement in 1945. He died October 25, 1951.

Survivors include seven children, Jake, Frank, Peter and Mrs. Sidney Eisma, all of Ireton, Mrs. Ted Riepma of Maurice, Mrs. Clarence Peters of Orange City and William Sinkey of Ashton, la.; a sister in The Netherlands, 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Poster's note: Mrs. Sinkey's mother's maiden name is transcribed as Bertha Kootstra in the 1925 Iowa census -- image is not available on ancestry.com but name was more likely Bertha Kooistra. Nellie gave her father's name as Frank Wiersma.
