Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Shoemaker, 74, who passed away at her home in Ireton near the noon hour of June 9, was held from the home Friday, June 11, at 1:30 p.m., and from the Methodist church at 2 p.m., with the Rev. G. E. Seheider, pastor, in charge.

The floral designs were beautiful, and many tokens from relatives, neighbors and friends, who esteemed her so greatly in life. A touching service with spoken words of her high esteem and character and respect the community held for her.

Pall Bearers

The pall bearers, old friends of the family, were: John Linnan of Maurice, Eugene Tiernan, Henry Franke, A. Heidbrink, H. Vande Water, and J. A. Lindenman, carried her remains to the last resting place. Several favorite hymns were sung by Mrs. Stanley Hooper and Miss Madge Satterlee, accompanied, on the piano by Mrs. Arthur Bartlett.

Interment was made in the family lot in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Louise Paeper was born in Michigan City, Ind., on Jan. 15, 1863 and lived with her parents there until the family moved to the vicinity of Odebolt, la., when she was 8 years of age.

Married in 1887

She was married to Theodore Shoemaker in Odebolt on March 19, 1887. To this union 7 children were born, William and John of Ireton, Mrs. Ella Kern of Le Mars, Mrs. Stella Leavens of Alamosa, Colo., and Mrs. June Seffens of Denver, Colo. Charles and Edward preceded their mother in death. A number of years ago Mr. Shoemaker passed away, on Nov. 12, 1929.

Mr. and Mrs. Shoemaker, after their marriage, established their home on a farm near Odebolt. Two years later they came to a farm in Sioux county, near Ireton. Twenty-four years ago they moved to their present home in Ireton.

In Poor Health

Mrs. Shoemaker had been in poor health for a number of years, but began failing more rapidly several weeks ago. She passed to the great Beyond on June 9, 1937, at the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 25 days.

Besides the children there remain to mourn her passing one brother, Robert Paeper of Newell, four half sisters, Mrs. Anna Larson, Mrs. Emma Henrich, Mrs. Gustav Henrich and Mrs. Freda Anderson, all of Newell, and four grandchildren, also many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Shoemaker was of a quiet unassuming disposition, bearing the burdens and cares that fell to her lot bravely and cheerfully. She was a member of the Methodist church at the time of her death.

Poster's note: Mrs. Shoemaker's name is given as Lucy on her marker at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. The newspaper account calls her Louise but various censuses give her name as Louisa. She gives her parents names as Christopher and Emma Paeper in the 1925 Iowa census. Ancestry.com transcribes her mother's maiden name as Seppens but it is difficult to read on the actual census.
