John Van Oort, Sr. of Middleburg died Saturday evening, January 24, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital following a sudden illness.

Services were held Wednesday, January 28, at the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg. Rev. Robert Hector officiated. Burial was in Middleburg Cemetery under the direction of the Vqan Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Van Oort was born February21, 1899 at Middleburg, the son of John and Anna (Gruys) Van Oort. He married Tracy Bomgaars May 30, 1919 at Middleburg. She passed away May 26, 1958. Mr. Van Oort, a lifelong Middleburg resident, farmed until retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Free Grace Reformed Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Angeline) Reekers, Middleburg; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rodney (Hilda) Roetman, Bellflower, California; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Van Oort, Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tracy, a son, Nick, who died in 1922 at the age of 12 days, and a son, John, who died in 1954 at the age of 35; also three brothers and three sisters.
