Effie Van Oort, 95, of Orange City died Tuesday, March 5, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

A memorial service was at First Reformed Church in Orange City on Friday, with the Rev. Cornie Keunen officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery prior to the service.

Mrs. Van Oort was born on February 11, 1901, in rural Orange City, the daughter of Teunis and Nellie (Ravenstein) Swets. She was raised in Middleburg. On November 3, 1925, she married John G. Van Oort in Orange City. The couple farmed north of Orange City. He died on April 21, 1974, in Denver, Colorado. In 1975, she moved into Orange City, and, in 1987, she became a resident of Heritage House in Orange City. On August 16, 1991, she transferred to Pleasant Acres.
She was a member of First Reformed Church and Reformed Church Women’s Ministries.

Survivors include three daughters, Joan and her husband, Harvey Van Rooyen, of Sanborn, Norma and her husband, Russell Kenney, of Orange City and June Van Oort of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons; a sister; and four brothers.
