Ethel Van Oort, 97, of Orange City, formerly of Ireton, died Sunday, February 19, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Memorial services were at First Reformed Church in Ireton on Friday, with the Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

She was born on April 7, 1897, on a farm near Hull, the daughter of John P. and Mary (Van Steenwyk) Muilenburg. She married William Van Oort on January 29, 1920, on the family farm near Hull. The couple farmed north of Orange City until 1936 when they moved to Hospers. They moved to Hull in 1939 and returned to Orange City in 1944. They moved to Ireton in 1953, where her husband was a partner at Ireton Produce until his retirement in 1961. Her husband died on July 8, 1971. She moved to Heritage House Nursing Home on February 26, 1990. She was a lifetime member of Reformed Churches of America, with membership in the Ireton First Reformed Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Howard and Mildred of Ireton and Harris and Rita of Omaha; two daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and the Rev. Don Thrash of Dayton, Ohio, and Carol and John Reinders Jr. of Ireton; a sister, Nellie Mouw of Sioux Center; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie; three sisters, Cynthia Vander Zwaag, Mae De Cook and Johanna DeGroot; two infant daughters; and two infant grandchildren.
