Died: January 23, 2001

Peter Van Oort, 84, Sanborn, died Tuesday, January 23, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.Services were Thursday, January 25, at Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn, with the Rev. Dale Fopma officiating. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home Service.

Peter Van Oort, son of Johannes and Anna (Baarman) Van Oort, was born on May 5, 1916, at Leota, Minnesota. He lived his youth and received his education at Middleburg. He married Wilmina Aalbers on November 11, 1938, in Middleburg. They lived most of their married life at Sanborn, where he owned and operated a feed grinding and corn shelling business, retiring in 1991. Mrs. Van Oort died October 25, 1998.

He was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon and elder. He also had served on the Hope Haven Board.He enjoyed spending his time welding and working in his machine shop.

Survivors include his children, Joy and Jim Van Dyke of Sanborn, Audrey and Alvin Kelderman of Doon, Harv and Gloria Van Oort of Sanborn, Ken and Natalee Van Oort of Rock Valley, and Donna and Charles Infinger of Charleston, South Carolina; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Winnie Grevengoed; and a stepsister, Tillie Wielinga.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilmina Van Oort; two grandsons, Lyle Kelderman and Travis Van Oort; a great-granddaughter, Paige Van Oort; a brother, Henry; and two sisters, Eva and Elizabeth.
