Former Ireton Mail Carrier Dies at Age 80

Ireton, Ia. — Word was received of the death of Edgar Satterlee, 82, at Long Beach, Calif., on Dec, 26. Funeral services were held Dec. 30.

Mr. Satterlee was born near Ireton and lived here most of his life before going to California. He was one of the first mail carriers at Ireton. He also was an auctioneer.

He married Miss Etta Shimer about 60 years ago.

He is survived by the widow; one son, Glenn; one granddaughter; six brothers, L. D. Satterlee of Ireton, Fletcher of Litchfield, N. D., Clark of Stanley, N. D., Elmer of Central City, Ia., Herbert of Belden, Neb., and Albert of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers

Poster's note: According to his WW1 draft card and California death certificate, Edgar Satterlee was born on February 8, 1875. He was the son of Arabella (Peebles) and John Wesley Satterlee (see their obituaries on this site). He married Esther (Etta) L. Shimer on October 14, 1896 according to an article in the Jan. 28, 1938 Hawarden Independent. Etta and Edgar were the parents of one son, Orville Glenn Satterlee.
