The community was greatly shocked and sadden Friday when it was learned that Mrs. John Tieden had taken her own life by hanging. Mr. Tieden had left her at home early in the morning when he made a trip to their farm northeast of town. When he returned about 10:30 he found her lifeless body hanging in the basement. Mrs. Tieden had mourned the loss of their son, who met an accidental death about 16 months ago and had brooded over this tragedy and it is thought that this was the cause of her rash act. She was a splendid Christian wife and mother and was held in the highest esteem by a very large circle of long time friends and her death came as a great shock to all.

Margaret Stalbaun was born on October 17, 1883, at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and passed away at Hawarden, Iowa, On December 8, 1939, at the age of 56 years, 1 month and 21 days. She came to this country early in 1902 at the age of 18, and was married to John Tieden on October 23, 1902, at Akron, Iowa. They lived on a farm near Ireton for about 7 years and then moved to the farm northeast of Hawarden in 1910, where they resided until about two weeks ago, when they moved to town, having purchased a home here.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany. She leaves to morn her passing, her husband, John Tieden; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Meether, Mrs. Hannah Johnson and Miss Etta Tieden, and five grandchildren. One son preceded her in death about 16months ago. She is also survived by one brother, Fred Stallbaum of Red Owl, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Dave Vander Hamm of Akron, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the Hawarden Lutheran Church on Monday afternoon, with the pastor, Rev. Burkhart in charge.
The pallbearers were Bert Squier, Marve McAninch, Henry McAninch, Fred Heuer, William Heuer and Albert Blumb. The services were very largely attended by the many neighbors and friends of the departed.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family in their great loss.
Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Klien, Mrs. William Ufken, Johnson, Mrs. A, Aalfs, Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Hansen, Mrs. Dora Johnson, all of LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Remmers and family of Heron Lake, Minnesota; Gerrit Schmidt, Bill Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Collins, all of Doon; Fred Stallbaum, Red Owl, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. John Rehmstad, Parker, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Coyes, Fairview, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Vander Ham and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Heubner, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haage, all from Akron; Mr. and Mrs. August Heubner and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kelke of Westfield.
