From the Thursday, October 20, 1927 Hawarden Independent:

The many friends of Mrs. John McGrory of LeMars were greatly shocked when they learned of her sudden death Sunday morning. She had been in her usual health and was just ready to accompany her husband to church and when going from one room to another a stroke of apoplexy ended her life. Their home at 133 Fifth Ave., S. W., in LeMars, was suddenly changed and where happiness and contentment had been, sadness and sorrow took possession. A doctor was hurriedly called but nothing could be done as she had passed from her earthly scenes to her possessions over there.

Mrs. McGrory was well known in Ireton and community. She came to Reading township with her husband in 1885 and located on a farm four miles south of Ireton. The McGrory farm was her home until twelve years ago when they retired and moved to LeMars. All who knew her learned to love her for her neighborliness and kindness. A good wife and helpmate, a loving and doting mother, she was proud of her family and home.

Catherine Marron was born in Bryant, Iowa, Oct. 24, 1858, so lacked a few days of being 69 years of age at the time of her death. She was a daughter of Irish parents, who were among the very earliest settlers in eastern Iowa. She grew to young womanhood there and received her education. She was united in marriage with John McGrory Oct. 22, 1883, and for nearly 44 years she traveled earth's pilgrimage at his side. This union was blessed with six children, four sons and two daughters. Two years following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. McGrory came from Bryant to Sioux county and for 30 years they their home on their farm.

Mrs. McGrory was a faithful and consistent member of the Catholic church. Besides her husband she leaves four sons and two daughters to mourn her passing. The children are John and William of LeMars; James and Joseph of Craig; Mrs. George Dirks of Madison, S.Dak. and Mrs. Nick Flaherty of Akron. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren and three brothers and a sister, John, Patrick and Joseph Marron and Mrs, Elizabeth Laughlin, all of LeMars.

Funeral services were held at St, James church at LeMars; at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. Rev. Father L. J. Cooper officiating. Internment was made in the Catholic cemetery at that place.

Poster's note: Catherine's brother, John Marron's, obituary in the February 8, 1935 LeMars Semi Weekly Sentinel gives their father's name as Patrick Marron.
