William Johnson Dies At Age 79 At Battle Creek

William R. Johnson, 79, died Sunday at a Battle Creek hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran church in Battle Creek. Burial was in the cemetery at Craig.

Mr. Johnson was born July 9, 1887, in Sioux county to the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Johnson of Craig. On June 14, 1910, he married Gesena Onken, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. Onken of Ireton. She died in 1956.

Survivors include four daughters, Irene Johnson, at home, Mrs. Eddy Lucht, Scranton, Ia. Mrs. Louis Korneski, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Carl Ziss, Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Virgil and Richard of Battle Creek; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, John of Mendots, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Beitelspacher of Rockwell City, la., and Mrs. George Lubben of Sioux City. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. John Toenjes, and Reinie and Andy Onken.

Poster's note: Richard Johnson's (William's father's) obituary in the December 20, 1928 Le Mars Globe Post indicates that William's mother's name was Katherine Wilhelmine (Tena) Pereboom.
