Ireton, Ia. — Mrs. Walter Hoogland, 74, a former Ireton resident, died Tuesday, August 29, at her home at Ellsworth, Minn.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Bethlehem Lutheran church at Ellsworth and burial was in the Grand Prairie cemetery there.

Mrs. Hoogland was born June 14, 1888, at Ireton. and lived here after her marriage to Walter Hoogland in September of 1913. The couple farmed near Ireton until 1931 when they moved to a farm northeast of Hock Rapids. They moved to Ellsworth in 1946.

She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran church and its Ladies Aid. She is survived by the widower; two sons, Elmer of Pipestone, Minn., and Vernon of Magnolia, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Meester of Rock Rapids; one brother, Carl Torwelle, and one sister, Mrs. Hattie Greigg, both of Sioux City; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Poster's note: According to her mother's obituary and the 1925 Iowa census, Mary was the daughter of Henrietta (Leeker) and Henry Torwelle. Also, the dates don't add up (1888+74 would be 1962) but these are the dates that are given from the obituary in 1961.
