From the May 11, 1961 Hawarden Independent:

Ten Napel Rites Will Be Friday

Funeral services for Herman Ten Napel of Ireton, 77, who died at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City Tuesday morning following a week's illness, will be held at 1:30 Friday at the home and at 2 o'clock at the First Reformed church in Ireton. Rev. Henry Senne will officiate with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Mr. Ten Napel was born in The Netherlands March 25, 1884, and came to the United States at the age of 9.

He married Miss Dena Noteboom May 25, 1906, and they farmed in the Ireton vicinity until retiring to Ireton in 1944. She preceded him in death.

In 1955 he married Mrs. Hermina Dekker at Ireton.

He was a member of the First Reformed church in Ireton for many years.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Harm Ten Napel of Bigelow, Minn., Peter Ten Napel of Houston, Texas, and Marion Ten Napel of Jasper, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Nellie) Heusinkveld of Bellflower, Calif., Mrs. Julius (Ada) Barents and Mrs. Lawrence (Frances) Mulder, both of Ireton; a stepson, John Dekker of Maurice; three brothers, H. E. Ten Napel of Ireton, Clarence Ten Napel of Lakewood, Calif., and Ralph Ten Napel of Placerville, Calif.; 30 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

His three sons, the step-son, and two sons-in-law will serve as casket bearers.

Poster's note: the obituary in the Ireton Booster gives Herman's full name as "Herman Jacob Ten Napel". Ireton, A Proud Heritage, 1882-1982 notes that H.J. was called "Manus" by his friends. This copy of the obituary is also in error on the date of his marriage to Hermina ("Minnie") Dekker - that wedding took place on March 3, 1953 in Edgerton, Minnesota according to a note in the March 12, 1953 Sioux County Capital.

Hermina (Van Voorst) (Dekker) Ten Napel died November 26, 1987.
