Funeral Services For John Treiber Held Here Tuesday

Funeral services for John Treiber, 77, who died unexpectedly Saturday morning, although he had been suffering from a lingering illness, were held at Trinity Lutheran church Tuesday, Rev. 0. F. Pittack officiating. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery with the Barnard Funeral home in charge. Pall bearers were John Klumb, Glenn Treiber, Lawrence Williams, Edward Treiber, Kearney Hemmingson and Walter Treiber.

John George Treiber, one of eight children born to Jacob Treiber. and wife, Anna, nee Erny, was born at Ridott, Ill., September 4, 1884. Before the turn of the century he accompanied his parents to .western Iowa and located at Le Mars and later moved to the Rock Valley community.

He became a communicant member of the Hawarden congregation on March 4, 1904, through the solemn rite of confirmation, Rev. Hugo Grimm, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Ireton and interim pastor of the local congregation, officiating. During his membership he served his congregation by holding several offices and as a member of a number of committees.

On February 16, 1910, he married Anna Schlumbohm. Rev. E. H. Gillman, pastor of Peace Lutheran church of Sioux Center, performing the ceremony. During the next 17 years he was engaged in farming two miles east of Hawarden. Upon retirement from the farm, in 1927, he became engaged in a number of different occupations and moved into his home on Avenue H where he remained during the past 34 years. Mrs. Treiber died on September 13, 1958. On November 19, 1960, he married Mrs. Celia McCue of Canistota, S. D.

Preceding him in death, besides his wife, Anna, were a son in infancy; two brothers, Philip and Martin; and one sister, Barbara Klumb.

Survivors include the widow, Celia; three brothers, Peter of Hawarden, William of Le Mars and George of Alcester; one sister, Ida Wegner of Hawarden; three step-children, Lloyd McCue of Denver, Colo., Donald McCue of Canistota and Patricia Bottoroff of Orlando, Fla.
