COOPER, LINDENMAN, CURTIS

From the December 15, 1977 Hawarden Independent:

Cecil C. Cooper, 82, of Ireton died Saturday at a Hawarden hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dow Funeral Home in Ireton. The Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cooper was born Sept. 23, 1895, in Sac City. He moved to the Ireton area in 1900. He married Emma Lindenman May 8, 1917, in Dakota City.
He worked for Iowa Public Service for 20 years, retiring in 1960. Prior to that he was a pharmacist in ireton.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, who was killed Feb. 17,1943, in World War II.

Survivors include the widow; a son, Cecil Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a grandson.

Cecil C. Cooper

Cecil Clayton Cooper was born in Sac City, Ia. on Sept. 23, 1895 to William and Julia Cooper. His mother passed away when he was four years old and he came to Ireton in 1900 to live with his sister, Mrs. A.T. Stafford, and husband who raised him to manhood. Cecil also had another sister, Mrs. F.R. Molesbery of Sac City and a brother, P.R. Cooper of Charleston, Oregon.

On May 8,1917 he married Emma E. Lindenman at Dakota City, Nb. and two sons were born to this union. Robert, the oldest son, gave his life for his country in New Guinea in 1943. Cecil Jr. served in the Navy for four years and married Regina Gentnor, a teacher in the local public school.

Cecil worked in a local drug store for a number of years, worked for G.L. Houlton garage as a mechanic and in 1932 became employed by Iowa Public Service Co. where he served for 28 years, retiring in 1960. He served on the school board for several years. The Coopers were privileged to celebrate 6O 1/2 years together. He passed away Dec. 10,1977 and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Emma Cooper died Nov. 22, 1980 at her home in Ireton.

Poster's note: According to the 1925 Iowa census, Cecil's mother's maiden name was Julia Curtis.
