Service Held for Mrs. Vander Laan

Life-Long Resident Of Sioux County

Funeral services were held here Monday, August 22, for Mrs. John Vander Laan. Rev. H. Colenbrander officiated at the services in the First Reformed church.

Mrs. Stella Vander Laan (nee Vander Maten) was born on a farm one mile north of Alton on June 29, 1885. At the age of one year she moved with her parents to a farm four miles south of Boyden where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage to John Vander Laan on February 7, 1912. Six children were born to his union: Louis of Beresford, SD.; Lorena, Mrs. Marlon Ten Napel of Ireton; Herman, who preceded her in death, during World War II; Marion and Clarence of Orange City; and Harold of Wall Lake, Ia. Eleven grandchildren survive and two brothers, Gerrit Vander Maten of Boyden and Bert Vander Maten of Sheldon, and many nieces and nephews. Six brothers, two sisters and one grandson also preceded her in death.

She died August 18, 1955, at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 19 days.

She was a faithful member of the First Reformed church.

Pallbearers were Louis, Marion, Clarence and Harold Vander Laan, Marion Ten Napel and Louis Vander Laan Jr. Van Etten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in the Orange City cemetery.
