Seward Southwick Died Thursday Night In Sioux City

Seward Southwick passed away at midnight last Thursday night, April 20th, at St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City. He had been In failing health for about a year, suffering from Brights disease and heart trouble, and about two weeks before his death he was removed to the hospital.

His family went to Sioux City upon receipt of word of his death and made funeral arrangements. Funeral services were held from the Samuels Funeral Home in Sioux City at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon and burial was made in that city.

Seward Southwick was 60 years of age at the time of his death. In 1901 he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret McElhaney and to this union three children were born. Mr. Southwick was the first rural mail carrier out of Hawarden, being appointed by the late Dr. W. A. Quigley, while he served as postmaster. He left here about twelve years ago and was overseer of a construction crew. He was compelled to give up his work because of ill health. Besides his widow he is survived by three children, Mrs. Prank Whitfield of Sioux Falls and Miss Mary and Cletus Southwick of Hawarden. He is also survived by five brothers, Winfert of Spokane, Wash.; Gene and Skyler of Boston, Mass.; Shell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ted of Des Moines, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. May Welton of Cumberland, Iowa.
