Funeral services for John Van Ommen Jr., 72, of Alvord were held Tuesday at the Central Lyon Elementary School gymnasium, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery. He died Saturday, August 14, 1993, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.

Mr. Van Ommen was born July 21, 1921, in Perkins. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Alvord and attended country school. After finishing his education, he began farming with his father.

On February 24, 1949, he married Lily Wirtjes in Sioux Center. They farmed northwest of Alvord for the next 45 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. Kenneth of George and Henry of Rock Rapids; five grandchildren and one sister, Gertrude Van Ommen of Larchwood.
