Obituary of H. F. Sohl, Who Passed Away Sat., June 5th

Henry Ferdinand Sohl, son of John Sohl and Minna nee Tiedemann, was born August 14, 1874 at Hannover, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at his hometown.

At the age of 17 he came to New York and lived there until 1907, where he was also married to Miss Meta Ahrens.

To this union eight children were born, the youngest of whom, Helen, preceded him in death in 1919.

In 1907 he came with his family to Iowa and lived on various farms in Lyon and Sioux Counties. His wife passed away in 1918.

In 1928 he was married to Anna Schmidt and one child was born to them.

In December, 1947, he retired with his wife and one child to the town of Hull, Iowa.

Due to a stroke he passed away suddenly June 5th, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 21 days, leaving to mourn his passing his beloved wife Anna, the following children: Paul and Louis of Hull; Mrs. August Breuer {Adele) of Madison, Minnesota; Ernest of George; Mrs. Martin Woelber (Alma) of Hull: Mrs. Alfred Riebeling (Martha] and Alfred of Rock Rapids: Henrietta at home. Five step-children also survive: Albert Schmidt of Beaver Creek. Minnesota; Mrs. Louis Hinsch (Matilda) and Elmer of George; Arthur Schmidt of Omaha, Nebraska: and Vernon Schmidt of George; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Fred, of Sheldon; one sister, Mrs. Christ Hollander (Adele), of George beside a host of friends and other relatives mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Wm. Meinen at 2:00 p. m., at the St. Paul Lutheran church, Tuesday, June 8th.

Poster's note: The June 10, 1948 Sioux Center News adds the following detail about Mr. Sohl's death: The Hull community was shocked to hear that Henry Sohl had died suddenly Saturday evening, June 5. He was at the sale in the afternoon of his neighbor, Mr. Peter Stienstra and bought a scythe and was using it when he dropped dead of a heart attack. (The item goes on to include funeral information, etc. given in much more detail above.)
