John Sohl

DOON, Iowa -- John Sohl, 86, of Rock Rapids, formerly of Doon, died Wednesday in a Rock Rapids hospital.

Services were held Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Hull. The Rev. Lyle Blaede officiated. Burial in the church cemetery under the direction of Jongewaard-Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Mr. Sohl was born Nov. 27, 1899 in Sioux County. He married Elsie Zorn Feb. 10, 1926 in Hull. They farmed in the Doon area until 1937 when they moved to George where he worked as a carpenter. In 1945 they returned to farm at Doon, retiring in 1962. In 1974 they moved to Doon. Mrs. Sohl died in 1978. He then moved to Rock Valley and lived there until moving to Rock Rapids in 1984.

Mr. Sohl served as assessor in Garfield Township fro more than 25 years.

Survivors include tow sons, Arnold of Doon and Dwayne of Fairview, S.D.; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Louise) Schemmel of Dexter; a brother, Edward of Boyden; a sister, Mrs. Frieda Fick of Luverne, Minn.; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
