From the Alton Democrat of March 18, 1905

At one o'clock Monday morning C. C. Schaap senior passed away suddenly from heart disease. On Sunday he appeared well and strong and attended church services at Carnes where his son Rev. J. C. Schaap of Palmer SD preached. His wife was awakened by his heavy breathing early Monday morning and ere she could awaken him his spirit had fled.

Deceased was born on an island (Terschelling) on the north coast of Holland and came to this country in 1865. He has been a resident of Orange City the past few years coming here from Ackley. The funeral was held Wednesday from the Chr. Ref. Church.

Besides his beloved wife, five children are left to mourn. They are Rev. John C. Schaap of Palmer SD, Clarence Schaap of Sheldon, Mrs. Overkamp of Holland Michigan, Mrs. E. R. Bos of Hull and Mrs. C. R. Bos of Orange City.
