George J. Vande Kamp

October 27, 1937 - July 10, 2013

Mr. George Vande Kamp, age 75, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, July 15, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 9:30am, at the American Reformed Church in Hull.

Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the American Reformed Church in Hull.

Arrangements are being completed by the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

George was born on October 27, 1937, at Ireton, the son of George and Celia (Vanden Berg) Vande Kamp. He was raised at Ireton and graduated from West Sioux High School. He served in the United States Army as a medical specialist in Germany, honorably discharged in 1960.

On April 3, 1993, he married Darla Jean Boeve in Hull, where they made their home.

George was a member of the First Reformed Church, serving as elder and Ministry of Visitation.

In earlier years, he was the Sioux County Recorder, and he was employed by the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance. Later he worked for the City of Hull as administrator.

George enjoyed outdoor activities, including yard work, camping, and going to his grandchildren’s activities. He was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife of more than twenty years; three children, Grant Vande Kamp and his wife, Lisa, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Renae, and her husband, Bruce Goslinga, of Ripon, California; and Joshua De Kruif, and his wife Emily, of Ankeny; six grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie and Cody Top, Matthew Vande Kamp, Lee Vande Kamp, Tyler and Kaitlyn Goslinga, Jordan Goslinga, and Jared Goslinga; eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, Hilbert and Loraine Vande Kamp, Marvin and Harriet Vande Kamp, Allan and Marlene Vande Kamp, Vernon and Leona Vande Kamp, Winifred and Alfred De Jong, Geraldine Van Holland, Celia Ten Napel, and Norma and Nelson Nikkel; a brother-in-law, Leonard Vanden Bosch; as well as Darla’s brothers and sisters and their spouses, Duane and Sharon Boeve, Norm and Mary Boeve, Lisa and Glen Kooiker, Janice and Dwayne De Boer, Henry J. and Judy Boeve, Patti Boeve, and Ken and Bev Boeve.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Gerrit and Priscilla Vande Kamp; a sister, Geneva Vanden Bosch; and two brothers-in-law, Marvin Ten Napel and John T. Van Holland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the Pleasant Acres Care Center and the First Reformed Church building fund.
