The following obituary is taken from the June 25, 1975 edition of the Sioux County Capital. We found a similar obituary in the Sioux Center News dated June 25, 1975 and in the LeMars Daily Sentinel dated June 23, 1975. Please note that all 3 papers give Murat's last name as DOUGHTERY not Doherty and his sons' last names are also given as Doughtery; however, wife Hazel's and son Dan's obituaries and Murat's tombstone all give the spelling of his last name as DOHERTY. I've changed the name to the correct spelling in transcribing:

MURAT DOHERTY
Murat Doherty, 76, Alton, died June 22 at an Orange City hospital after an illness of three weeks.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. June 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Mervin Hood, pastor, officiating. Burial in the church cemetery was under direction of the Luedtke Funeral Home in Le Mars.

The Rosary was recited and there was a prayer service at 8 p.m. June 23 at the parish hall.

Mr. Doherty was born Aug. 30, 1898, in Sioux County. He married Hazel Olson June 10, 1930, in Le Mars. He farmed near Maurice until 1946 when they moved to Alton.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, M.Sgt. Daniel Doherty, stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Omaha, and John of Alameda, Calif.; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. James Coleman of Clare.

The LeMars Daily Sentinel adds that he was preceded in death by two sisters: Mrs. Frances Deegan and Mrs. Lorretta Hensing.
