Leona Wilhelmina Tutje, 96, Grand Marais, Minnesota, formerly of Matlock, died Thursday, April 18, at North Shore Care Center in Grand Marais.

Services were be 1 P. M. today (Saturday, May 4) at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Rev. Mark Schwartz officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Matlock, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Leona Tutje, daughter of William and Magdalena (Schempp) Reemtsma, was born July 23, 1905, in Marion, South Dakota. She received her education in a country school. She married John H. “Jack” Tutje on February 2, 1930, in Marion. They farmed near Matlock for 30 years. They also ran a grocery store and the Matlock Post Office. Mr. Tutje died January 17, 1976, in Matlock.

She was a past member of Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, and Matlock Reformed Church.

Survivors include a son, Jerome H. Tutje of Windom, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Milbert and Marian Reemtsma of Sun City West, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tutje; a son, LaVern Lee Tutje in 1940; a daughter, Donna Jean Popkes in 1966; a grandson, Brian Popkes; and a brother, Leonard Reemtsma
