From the January 17, 1963 Sioux Center News:

Herman Dirksen, sr. a resident of Doon died at the Sioux Center Community hospital on Sunday, January 6, 1963 at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 19 days.

He was a son of Mickel Dirksen and Dirkje Louw and was born at Harderwiyk, The Netherlands, on September 17, 1884.

He was married on February 19, 1907 to Reintje Hamstra and to this union nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons, Evert and one in infancy.

Surviving are the children, Dora (Mrs. Nick Roghair) of Alton, Ellie (Mrs. Barney Westra) of Hull, Minnie (Mrs. John De Vos) of Hudson. S. D., Clara (Mrs. Fred Bonestroo) of Sheldon, Rena (Mrs. F. Niemeyer) of Inwood, Dick and Herman, jr., both of Rock Valley. He also leaves 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 9, 1963 at 1:30 p.m. from the First Christian Reformed church in Doon, Rev. John Kilenbas officiated, he was assisted by the Rev. J. G. Vande Leene of Orange City.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton, under the direction of the Co-operative Funeral service of Sioux Center.
