From the Alton Democrat, October 21, 1932:

Mother Dies of Typhoid

The typhoid scourge that so far had claimed the life of Evert Dirksen Wednesday morning took the life of Evert's mother, Mrs. Herman Dirksen. She is survived by her husband and children, the youngest only six mouths old. The daughter, Allie, is also very ill with typhoid, and there are seven or eight cases of typhoid in all in the neighborhood, just west of McNally. The Dirksen family formerly lived six miles south of Alton and a great deal of sympathy is felt for them by many friends here.

Posters note: from her tombstone in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton and from her husband's obituary: Reintje (Hamstra) Dirksen was born in 1887 and died in 1932.

The family's last name is sometimes spelled Dierksen.
