Sioux Center News May 12, 1949

Orange City - Relatives here received word that the Rev. Bart Van Zyl, 64, pastor of the Reformed Church at Hollandale, Minn., passed away Sunday at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon following a stroke which he suffered Sunday Morning. The departed was born at Newkirk, 64 years ago, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roelof Van Zyl, prominent farmers of this vicinity. He was a graduate from N.W.C.A. at Orange City, Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa, and Western Theol. Seminary. He married Miss Minnie Van Leeuwen of Holland, Mich. To this union were born 4 children. He began his career as Minister of the Gospel 33 years ago serving his first pastorate at Sanborn, Iowa; later he served the Reformed Churches of Granville, Mich., Holland, Nebr., Chicago, Ill., and the past 5 years of Hollandale, Minn. While serving at Holland, Nebr. Mrs. Van Zyl passed away and later the Reverend married Miss Hilda Eason of Alton. To them were born 3 children. Surviving are his widow and his children. Also surviving are three brothers: James of Sanborn, Guy of Sheldon and Ralph of Alton; 3 sisters: Mrs. Trina Vander Haar of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Henry A. De Haan of Orange City and Ms. Conran Muilenburg of Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral services will be held this week at Hollandale where internment will be made.
