Hawarden Independent April 3, 1930

Mrs. Lizzie Topp, mother of Ralph Topp and Mrs. O.N. Schuetz of Hawarden, passed away at the home of her son, Bert Topp at Alton last Wednesday night, March 26th, following a short illness. She had complained of not feeling well for several days but a doctor was not called until Wednesday evening at about 8 o'clock. He pronounced her condition serious and she passed away about 11 o'clock that night.

Lizzie Zante was born in Holland 78 years ago and came to America when she was 25 years of age. A year later she was united in marriage with Lammert Topp. They went to Clear Lake, S.D. where they took up a homestead and lived several years. From there they came to Sioux County and located near Sioux Center where Mrs. Topp made her home for more than forty years. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Mr. Topp passed away four years ago. Mrs. Topp and her daughter, Miss Louise, made their home in Hawarden for two years after Mr. Topp's death. The children left to mourn her death are Mrs. Mary Schuetz of Hawarden; Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Rifle, Colo.; Bert Topp of Alton; Miss Reka Topp of Los Angeles, Calif; Ralph Topp of Hawarden; Mrs. Fora Johnson of LeMars; Steve Topp of Sanborn and Miss Louise Topp of Denison, Iowa. She also leaves three step-children, John Topp of Ireton; Mrs. Henry Goldbeck of Clear Lake, S.D.; and Mrs. John Jansen of Hallock, Minn.

Funeral services were held from the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon and burial was made at that place.
