DEATH OF FORMER RESIDENT

Charles W. Dick Passed Away Aug. 17th at Brookings, S. D.

Charles W. Dick, a former resident of this community, passed away at his home near Brookings, S. D., last Tuesday, Aug. 17th, at the age of 74 years. Three years ago he suffered a stroke and was in ill health from that time until his death.

Mr. Dick was born Feb. 13, 1863, in Allegheny City, PA. When he was two years old he moved with his parents to Durham, Mo., where he grew to manhood. In 1885, he homesteaded in Holt county, Nebr. and in March of the following year he married Jane Allison. Four children were born to them.

In 1893 he moved to Hawarden and farmed in this vicinity for eight years. Later he moved to Brookings county, S. D., and farmed for another eight years before moving to Centerville, S. D. Later he returned to his farm in Brookings county and lived there until his death.

Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Estella Tofte and Mrs. Marble Krow, and by one son, Leslie, all of Brookings. One son died in infancy. The seven surviving grandchildren are Charles, Ronald and Orval Tofte, Mrs. Charles Barton, and Wayne, Berdell and Dayle Krow. Two sisters and two brothers also survive. They arc Mrs. Emma Stevens of Durham, Mo.; Mrs. Elizabeth Allison, Camp Point, Ill.; Henry J. Dick, Houston, Texas, and George F. Dick, Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock last Friday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church in Brookings. Those from a distance attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Turner and family and Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Turner of Artesian, S. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Buskirk and Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Rembe of Hawarden.
