From the May 3, 2003 N'west Iowa Review:

Alvin De Berg
April 24, 1921 - April 24, 2003

BOYDEN—Alvin De Berg, 82, Boyden, died Thursday morning, April 24, at George Good Samaritan Center.

Services were Tuesday, April 29, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, with the Revs. Matt Yale and Marvin Kanengieter officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden under the direction of Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Alvin De Berg, son of Helmer and Helen (Kruger) De Berg of Little Rock, was born April 24, 1921. He grew up in the Sibley area and attended country school at Viola No. 2 through eighth grade. He married Frances Leona Mulder on March 7, 1945, at her parents' home in Little Rock. They lived and farmed in Little Rock and Hardwick, MN, later moving to Sibley, and then to Boyden in 1966, where he drove gravel truck for several years. He also started A&A (Alvin and Ardell) Construction where they laid concrete slabs and constructed steel bins. He enjoyed working with steel and metals in his retirement years. The delight of the De Bergs' married life was their nine children, 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Music has always been a delight in the De Berg household. As the children grew up, one could always find the family around the piano. One special highlight for him was when his family recorded "Dad's Family Album" in 1973.

He was left partially paralyzed when he suffered a stroke in December 1996. The family has felt honored to have shared in his life beyond doctor's expectations. His wife and family were able to care for him in their home in Boyden for 3 1/2 years until he moved to George Good Samaritan Center in February 2000.

He trusted Christ as his Savior at the age of 22. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, where for many years one could always find him in the nursery caring for the little ones.

Survivors include his wife, Frances De Berg; nine children, Glenn De Berg of Britt and his special friend, Bette; Marlys and Stan Korthals of Boyden; Helen Kaye and Les Broek of Sioux Falls, SD; Arlyn and Kris De Berg of Gilbert, AZ; Ardell De Berg of Minneapolis; Mary Jane and Larry Klaahsen of Canton, SD; Colleen and Ardel Niemeyer of Boyden; Marilyn and Lem Maurer of Hull; and Caroline and Shaun Hatfield of Lewiston, ID; 26 grandchildren; 13 great¬grandchildren; five sisters, Vera Mulder of Little Rock, Ora Fischer of George, Arlene Arenas of Little Rock, Joanne and Louis Vust of Little Rock, and Phyllis and Marvan Vanden Brink of Boyden; and a sister-in-law, Don Nita De Berg of Sibley.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James De Berg, Johnnie De Berg and Leo De Berg.
