From the Ireton Ledger, November 19, 1931 (reprinted in the Hawarden Independent on November 26, 1931):

Former Livestock Man Here Dies in Nebraska

Word has been received here of the death of Neal Downey, former resident of this vicinity. He died suddenly at the home of George McGuire at Wisner, Nebraska, where he had been employed for the past 2 years.

Mr. Downey was well known and liked among cattle raisers in Sioux and Plymouth counties. While working in this section of the country he was employed by George Bartlett, Will Brown and C. R. Steele. He was a stockman who knew his business and attained a reputation as a fitter of cattle for sale and show ring purposes and in his day handled a number of national and state winners in the show rings. He was equally proficient in development of pig classes. Mr. Downey was a native of Scotland but he came to America when a boy. He is survived by a brother living at Bloomfield, Neb., and relatives living in Scotland.
