Passed Away In Iowa City

Joan Mary, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Dierks, passed away at the University Hospital at Iowa City Tuesday evening, August 16th. She was taken to Iowa City a few weeks ago for treatment and contracted pneumonia while there which was the cause of her death.

Joan was born Sept. 24, 1930, so was 1 year, 10 months and 25 days old at the time of her death. She was baptized October 5, 1930. She was a bright, lovable little girl and will be greatly missed in the home. Her passing brings the sympathy of the entire community to the sorrowing parents, grandparents and the immediate relatives to the saddened home.

Funeral services were held at one o'clock last Friday afternoon and at the Peace Lutheran Church in Plato township at 2 o'clock, with Rev. K. J. Graf conducting the services. Interment was made in the churchyard cemetery. The pall bearers were four girls, Mildred Clary, Inez Johnson, Martha Ranschau and Hilda Schollerman. A multitude of beautiful flowers covered the bier sent by sorrowing friends.

Besides her parents she leaves her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gayer and Mrs. Herman Dierks; her uncles and aunts and many other relatives and friends. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. Herman Dierks, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dierks and Thomas Thiessen of Gladbrook, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Mary Stamp and daughter of Garwin, Iowa; Mrs. Albert Thiessen and daughters, Gladys and Lucille, of Gaza, Iowa; Mr. ad Mrs. Adolph Thiessen of Lake Park, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thiessen of Lakefield, Minnesota; and Mrs. Frank Plunkett of Minneapolis.
