Frances Vander Berg
Frances Vander Berg, 84, of Hull died Tuesday, January 22, at the George Community Good Samaritan Center.
Memorial service was Friday at 11 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Burial was at River View Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Mrs. Vander Berg was born July 18, 1917, at Hull, the daughter of William J. and Nellie (Gunnink) Vander Wilt. She was raised at Hull, where she graduated from Hull High School. She married Richard Vander Berg at Wichita, Kansas, on October 24, 1942. They made their home in Sloan. He died April 10, 1947, at Sloan. She then returned to Hull. She resumed her education, graduating from Westmar College in Le Mars. She was a teacher for 34 years, mostly in the Boydcn-Hull schools. She became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in July 2000.
She was a member of First Reformed Church, where she participated in Reformed Church Women. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a volunteer at Hope Haven in Rock Valley. She enjoyed reading and being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Janyce and Conrad Brunsting of Hull; a son and his wife, Richard and Delores Vander Berg of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren and their spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Sophia Koele of White Water, Wisconsin; Adrianna Peacock, of Pensacola, Florida, Arnetta Vander Wilt of Hull and Carole Kruizenga of Star Prairie, Wisconsin.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson; a brother and his wife, John and Irene Vander Wilt; a sister and her husband, Henrietta and Ed Jouwstra; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Koele and Charles Peacock.
