Sioux Center News, June 28, 1945

Gerrit Vande Kamp lost his life in a very tragic accident on Wednesday, June 20, 1945, when the train struck the tractor on which he was riding and he passed away at about 3:15 o'clock in the afternoon, at the Hull hospital from the very serious injuries which he received.

Gerrit, who was called home at the early age of 20 years, was born at Sioux Center, Iowa on Nov. 30, 1924, and made confession of his faith in his Lord and Savior, and was to be publicly received into the church on Sunday, June 24. He was an active worker in church work, being a member of the Young Men's Society, a member of the Young Men's Sunday School Class and was the treasurer of the Sunday Evening Young Peoples Society. He will be deeply missed not only by his immediate family, but also by a host of relatives and friends who had learned to know and love him as a friend.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Vande Kamp and the following brother and sisters, Wilmina Henrietta, Margaret, Alvina Gertrude, Gerald Kenneth, Henrietta Darlene, Grace Arlene, Helen Joan and Gertrude Mae. Also his grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Gerrit Vande Kamp Sr., and Mr. & Mrs. Albert Gerritsen and the following close relatives as uncles and aunts: Mrs. Tony Bosh of Bellflower, CA; Mrs. Jake Hoogland of Middleburg; George Vande Kamp of Ireton; Albert Vande Kamp of Akron; Mrs. Henry Kraayenbrink of Doon; Henry Gerritsen of Inwood; John Gerritsen of Orange City; Peter Gerritsen of Sioux City; Mrs. Sam De Jager of Hudson; Mrs. Bert Lems of Doon; Mrs. Ben Roelofs of California; Albert Gerritsen, Jr. of Rock Valley; William Gerritsen of California; Mrs. Henry Driezen of Sioux Center; Mrs. John Driezen of California, and Mrs. Lou De Vries of Orange City.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, June 25, 1945 at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Oliver Breen officiating, who spoke on the text Ecclesiastes 12 vs. 1 "Remember now they Creator in the days of they youth". Special music was furnished by a girls trio who sang "Let the Lower Lights be Burning".

Burial took place at the Sioux Center Cemetery and acting as pall bearers were Gerald De Weerd, Elmer Hubers, John Meendering, Peter Meyer, Sentner Altena and Senard Altema.
