Hawarden - Vernon Vander Lugt, 52, of Kittredge, CO, formerly of rural Hawarden, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, CO.
Services were Saturday, Dec. 16, at Kittredge Community Bible Church in Kittredge, CO. A private memorial service was held Sunday, Dec. 17, at Lebanon Christian Reformed Church.
Vernon Vander Lugt, son of Ray & Esther (Hooyer) Vander Lugt, was born Sept. 5, 1954, in Hudson, SD. He was baptized in Lebanon Christian Reformed Church. His Colorado and Iowa families rejoice that he reaffirmed his faith in his Lord in the weeks and days preceding his death. He attended Lebanon Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull. After moving to Colorado, he worked for many years in the concrete construction business. He married Beverly King in 1983. She and their three daughters, Diane, Amy and Jocelyn, along with their families, were the joy of his life. He took pride in being a grandfather. His children and grandchildren enjoyed their visits to Iowa, and together they took pleasure in opportunities to taste life on the dairy farm on which he grew up.
He was an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos, and he enjoyed playing golf, slow pitch and horseshoes. Along with his family, he loved music and whenever possible, attended a wide variety of concerts with his wife or friends. His family cherishes memories of vacations spent together, and hours spent horseback riding with Jordan, card playing with Nathan and dancing with Amberly.
