Wm. Vander Lugt of Sioux Center, for many years a well known resident of this community, passed away at his home at 8:30 Tuesday morning following a lingering illness. Six months ago Mr. Vander Lugt suffered a stroke and he never recovered from the effects of this, and was bedfast almost continuously since that time. Last Thursday he suffered a second stroke and death claimed him five days later.

Funeral services will be held at the home in Sioux Center at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon and at the Christian Reformed church at 1:30 with Rev. J. M. Dykstra of the First Christian Reformed church of Sioux Center in charge. Burial will be made in the cemetery at Lebanon, his former home.

William Vander Lugt was born at DeLier, Netherlands, April 20, 1865, and passed away Nov. 26, 1935, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 6 days. He came to America, Feb. 15, 1915, and located in Sioux County and during his twenty years residence in this country he resided continuously in Sioux County. The first seven years of his residence here he lived on the farm, now the Ed. Brunsting farm, southeast of Hawarden. Then he moved onto a farm near Lebanon where he resided until two years ago when he retired and moved to Sioux Center. He was united in marriage in the Netherlands, with Grace (Grietje) Van Santen on June 29, 1894, and to this union were born ten children, all of whom with the wife survive. The children are Gerrit, Dick & Cornelius Vander Lugt, Mrs. John Kooi and Mrs. Adrian Dekkers of Hawarden, Mrs. Walter Swier of Colton, SD, Mrs. Gerrit Vander Lugt of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Peter Daale of Hudson and Leonard & Peter Vander Lugt of Chicago. He also leaves four brothers and two sisters, James Vander Lugt, of Sioux Center; Mrs. John Van Dyk of Colton, SD; Tunis & Leonard Vander Lugt of Grand Rapids, Mich., and one brother and one sister who reside in the Netherlands. There are 28 grandchildren.

When Mr. Vander Lugt lived in this vicinity he was a faithful member and worker in the Christian Reformed Church and after he moved to Sioux Center he became a member of the Christian Reformed church there. He was an industrious man and upright in all his dealings and in his death the family loses a kind and loving husband and father.
