Hawarden Independent, September 30, 1948

Funeral services for Mrs. Dick Vander Lugt, 43, who died Monday afternoon at the Hawarden hospital, will be held at 1:30 this afternoon at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church. Rev. J. Cupido of the Christian Reformed Church will be in charge of the service. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Vander Lugt had been ill for three years. Last November she was taken to Rochester, Minn, and was operated on for a brain tumor. It was at that time that the seriousness of her ailment was discovered. She returned home and was able to be up and around until about two months ago. Early Monday afternoon she was taken to the hospital where she died three hours later.

Jeanette Visser, life long resident of Sioux County, was born May 27, 1906, at Sioux Center, a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A. Visser. Her mother died when she was a small child. She came to Hawarden with her father when a child and since then lived in this vicinity.

She was married to Dick Vander Lugt, January 10, 1924, and for 16 years she lived on a farm northeast of Hawarden. Eight years ago she moved onto a farm on the east edge of Hawarden.

In the fall of 1938 Mr. & Mrs. Vander Lugt adopted Darlene Annette, aged 9 months. The survivors are her husband and daughter, her father, A. Visser of Hawarden; one brother, Tony Visser of Hawarden, and one sister Mrs. John Ekdom of Ireton.

She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Hawarden.
